Product recommendation | Introduction to configurable models of Solidot's Series 5 Integrated I/O

2026-08-23

Solidot's Series 5 Integrated I/O series now covers industrial Ethernet protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP, with channel counts covering two specifications of 16 and 32, and is compatible with master systems from mainstream manufacturers.

Among these, configurable models with a "+" suffix are designed to meet on-site I/O specification adjustment needs: the module's channels can be configured between inputs and outputs via the DIP switch — sensor polarity (NPN/PNP) changes and reallocation of input/output points can all be completed on the same module, allowing I/O Assignment to be determined according to actual on-site requirements.

I. How the configurable function is implemented

Take EC5R-1616A+ as an example: the module has 32 channels in total, of which 16 are fixed NPN inputs and the other 16 are DI/DO-compatible channels — the compatible channels can be configured as inputs or outputs via the Binary DIP Switch on the panel. Inputs can be added when input points are insufficient, and outputs can be added when output points are insufficient, so a single module can cover a variety of I/O specification requirements.

The operation is summarized as follows —

● DIP switch 0: determines the module version. When set to the Alarm version, the alarm code can be viewed in the Upstream Data, facilitating troubleshooting;

● DIP switch 1: determines the DI/DO Assignment method;

● DIP switches 2 ... 5: configure channels by group;

● After the configuration is changed, power-cycling the entire group makes it take effect.

In addition to DIP switch configuration, the module also supports automatic adaptation of inputs and outputs according to the Wiring Method.

II. Naming Convention for configurable models

In the model naming, "A" corresponds to the NPN output system and "B" corresponds to the PNP output system, which can be selected according to the signal polarity of on-site sensors and actuators; configurable function models have a "+" suffix after "A" or "B".

III. Other key features

In addition to the configurable capability, this series also has the following features in terms of communication, installation and environmental adaptability —

● Communication performance: EC5R Minimum cycle time 250 µs; PN5R Minimum cycle time 1 ms; EI5R Minimum cycle time 2 ms; all three have a Transmission rate of 100 Mbps.

● Channel Diagnostics: Channel indicators are arranged close to the channels, allowing signal anomalies to be quickly located to the specific channel.

● Protection mechanism: Outputs feature Short-circuit Protection and Reverse connection protection, both with automatic recovery; the module also features Reverse Polarity Protection and Surge protection, with a channel Isolation withstand voltage of 500 V AC.

● Load capacity: Each output channel supports up to 0.5 A, supporting resistive, inductive and lamp loads, and can directly drive standard Solenoid valves, Relays and Indicators.

● Terminal blocks: The I/O Signal Terminal uses a 3-pin design, with each channel wired independently in groups to save terminal block space; sensors can be powered directly from the terminals.

● Installation Method: supports DIN 35 mm Rail Mounting; both ends of the module also feature retractable structural components, allowing mounting via screw holes as well.

● Environmental adaptability: operating temperature -20 ... +60 °C, IP20 Protection Rating, suitable for installation inside control cabinets, optional dust cover available.
