Common Problems and Precautions for Using XB6-P20D Module

XB6-P20D is a Pulse Counter Module in SD Tech's motion control product series, compatible with mainstream protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and CC-Link IE Field Basic. It supports counting for AB Quadrature Encoders and optical/magnetic linear scales, as well as the probe input latch function.

In everyday use of XB6-P20D, the following common issues may be encountered:


I. How to set up Encoder Reverse Counting?


Taking channel 1 of the XB6-P20D module as an example, the Encoder counting direction can be changed by modifying ENC_Control_Counter0Dir_Inv. When this value is 0, the count value increases as the encoder rotates clockwise; when set to 1, the count value decreases as the encoder rotates clockwise.



II. How to enable Z-phase reset?


For applications with a mechanical zero point or an encoder with its own Z-phase output, ENC_Control_ZPhase0_Enable can be set to 1 to enable the Z-phase reset function. Once Z-phase reset is enabled, the current count value is automatically reset to zero when the Z-phase input port detects a specific pulse edge.



III. How to enable Ring counting?


XB6-P20D ring counting function is determined by two configuration parameters


Encoder Resolution

ENC_Configuration_Encoder0_Resolution


Encoder Counting Multiplier

ENC_Configuration_Encoder0_CountMultiples


When Encoder Resolution is set to 0, the ring counting function is disabled by default; when Encoder Resolution is set to a non-zero value, the ring counting function is enabled.


For example: if Encoder Resolution is set to 400 and the counting multiplier is set to 4x, XB6-P20D performs cyclic counting within [0 to 1600-1].
