After completing the configuration of the 4-port distributor in Sysmac Studio, how to add the device on port X4

In this article

1. Applicable products

SW4-ECP04A (metal housing) / SW4-ECP04 (plastic housing)

2. Configuration Tool

Omron Sysmac Studio

3. Key issue

The X4 port is not clearly visible in the configuration interface, so users do not know how to add a device to this port.

4. Key conclusion

When adding a device by double-clicking, the X4 port entry is located at the bottom of the configuration dialog box; click the X4 button to complete the addition.

5. Background

The X4 port corresponds to the connection position directly below the junction in the topology, so it is shown at the bottom of the interface.

After importing the configuration file for the Solidot 4-port EtherCAT Junction (SW4-ECP04A/metal housing or SW4-ECP04/plastic housing) in Omron Sysmac Studio and completing the configuration, how should the device on the X4 port be added? How is this port displayed in the interface?

This is a common source of confusion for users who follow the conventional 1-in/3-out (OUT1... OUT3) addition method: in the configuration interface, the X4 port is not shown as a separate OUT tab, but is located directly below the junction node. This article uses the XB6S series EtherCAT coupler XB6S-EC2002 as an example to explain the display rules for the X4 port and how to add it.

1. Creating a new project

Create a new project in Omron Sysmac Studio and set the PLC model and firmware version according to the actual hardware.

2. Finding and adding the 4-port junction in the toolbox

Find the 4-port junction of the corresponding model in the Sysmac Studio toolbox.

Double-click the junction or drag it below the master device node to add it to the configuration.

Note: The Solidot 4-port junction is available in two models, SW4-ECP04A with a metal housing and SW4-ECP04 with a plastic housing. The model selected during configuration must match the hardware actually used; selecting the wrong model will cause a mismatch between the configuration and the physical device, so verify the model name before adding it.

3. Adding EC devices below the junction (OUT1... OUT3)

Drag the EC device (in this example, the XB6S series EtherCAT coupler XB6S-EC2002) to the node under the OUT port of the junction, or right-click the corresponding OUT port and select "Add Device"; either method adds the device to OUT1–OUT3.

IV. Display position and method of adding for the X4 port

In the configuration interface, the X4 port is not displayed as an independent OUT tab. Double-click the target EC device to open the add dialog; the lower area of the dialog corresponds to the X4 port. Click the "X4" button to add the device under the X4 port.

The reason the X4 port is located at the lower part of the dialog is that, in terms of topology, X4 corresponds to the connection position directly below the junction node — this differs from the topological position of OUT1–OUT3, which branch out from the side, and the interface layout is consistent with the physical topology.

Note: After adding, expand the junction node in the configuration tree to confirm that the EC device is displayed under the X4 port entry, verifying that the configuration result is correct.
